Shark Sightings in Maltese Waters |
Its not exactly a secret that the Maltese Waters is not exactly the safest place for swimmers. There are hundreds of jelly fish and other poisonous aquatic life in the waters that often draw tourists and swimmers as far away as possible. Now, we may be able to add sharks to the list of unfriendly marine animals that live in the Matese waters. Multiple sources are claiming that they did in fact see sharks in the Sea. The reason for this unnatural sighting? “I can confirm that indeed if global warming will bring about a tropicalisation of the Mediterranean, there will be increasing changes in the biodiversity we observe in the sea. Indeed we already have newcomers from the Red Sea in the Med” answers bio conservation specialist Dr Adriana Vella. However, people who do decide to swim in the area have nothing to be worried about. “While most of these species are slow growing and produce one or few offspring at a time, very few shark species are dangerous to man. Usually, the few attacks happen when man is mistaken for another prey species” Dr Vella explains. Still, you will have to watch out for the dozens of other types of animals whose stings or bites quite possibly could be fatal so I do not recommend going there for recreation. There are safer beaches to swim at. |
