Man Catches 8 foot 250 pound plus Porbeagle Shark of f Coast of Sunderland

While deep sea fishing off the Coast of Sunderland, a surprised fishermen felt quite a heavy pull on his line. When he finally reeled in a catch, he found himself in front of an 8 foot Porbeagle shark weighing over 250 pounds.

Ron Carroll, a Sunderland Lifeboat mechanic and volunteer marine medic with British Divers Marine Life Rescue, said, “People don’t realise what a diverse fish life we have off the coast. Porbeagles are common for these waters but this is the biggest one I have seen. It’s about 250lb in weight and I understand it gave the fisherman quite a fight and was still twitching and snacking at people back at the quayside.”

This is thought to be one of the largest catches ever off the Sunderland coast.

The Porbeagle Shark has not grown into its full adult size as most fully mature adult Porbeagle sharks are usually around 12 feet long and weigh upwards of 300 pounds. Catching these sharks is very rare and few people go after them, but this time of year is when it is easiest to catch Porbeagles.
