Cast Away Charters Fishing Report

Posted on August 24th, 2013 by Mike

Let me see how do I start this well we have had some days where the weather has been a little crazy! But for the most part we have had no trouble finding some fish and getting them to bite and have some fun. As far as the weather goes we have had a few fronts that were late into the summer which makes the weather a little cooler but it makes some of the days tough to fish. Mostly because of the wind also because of the cold front we get a little rain. But to get back to the good stuff.

I will start this off with the Snook fishing. We have had a lot of fun with these fish. Most of these fish are moving or are where they spend the summer. With the summer coming we will get some much needed rain this will usually cause the fish to move as well. Many of the Snook we have been catching have been around areas where there is a lot of water movement. During the summer most of the Snook hang around locations where the tide moves very good. This can be a big part of catching these fish if you have a slow moving tide you might want to try to fish for something else. We have had a lot of nice fish over the past couple of week the biggest being a fish that was 30 inches.

Trout well like I said in the reports before the Trout took a big hit with the red tide last year. We have had a lot of luck with the Trout fishing the only trouble is that they have been a little small. We have had a few days where the fish are a little bigger but for the most part they have been a little smaller. Most of the fish we have been finding have been around the big schools of bait or where you can find the bait on the flats this time of the year. If you are going to try to do some of this Trout fishing soon I would recommend the early morning.

Then we have the Red fish these fish make up for the size of the Trout. Most of the fish we have been catching have been too big to keep. This is a good problem to have this means that most of the fish are over 27 inches. On the light tackle these fish are a lot of fun we have had some great fish but this past week we might have had some of the biggest Red fish that I have seen in a while we had a fish that was 35 inches it was a great fish. Most of the Red fish we have been catching has been on the higher tides which puts these fish up in the bushes. One of the biggest thing about catching these fish lately has been the bait. You want to make sure that you have plenty of bait to chum these great fish and get them in a frenzy.
Last but definitely not least we have the Tarpon these great fish are definitely here and we are having a lot of fun catching them. Some days are a little tougher then others but that is just because it is windier. There are a lot of fish around and most of the fish that we have been catching have been around the great Skyway bridge. But there are a lot of Tarpon showing up on the beach we just have not had a day were the wind is not blowing where we can get out there and catch some of these great fish. But I have been in touch with some of the other captains that have been doing a lot of fishing for the Tarpon on the beaches. These guys have been doing some of this Tarpon fishing when it has not been to windy. I am still stuck on the Tarpon story from the last report about the great Tarpon that the Shark almost got. Looking forward to getting out there and doing some more Tarpon fishing soon. By the way during week two of the Professional Tarpon Tournament Series we had a few great runs but we did not get that big fish back to the boat but we have a double next week so we will see how it goes.
