The big shark caught took about 5 hours to land.

Boca Grande is known for having big sharks prey on tarpon while anglers fish the tournaments.

This hammerhead shark was caught well outside of the tarpon fishing area.

“We don’t encourage the killing of sharks, especially large specimens that help sustain a species,” Hueter said. “We encourage tagging sharks and releasing them. But we are grateful that this animal has been donated to science. It will help us understand more about these animals.”
