A great hammerhead shark was caught off Boca Grande Florida that measure over 14 feet long and weighed in at 1262 pounds. The shark did not go to waste as it was donated ot Mote Marine Laboratory.
The big shark caught took about 5 hours to land.
Boca Grande is known for having big sharks prey on tarpon while anglers fish the tournaments.
This hammerhead shark was caught well outside of the tarpon fishing area.
“We don’t encourage the killing of sharks, especially large specimens that help sustain a species,” Hueter said. “We encourage tagging sharks and releasing them. But we are grateful that this animal has been donated to science. It will help us understand more about these animals.”
